80s themed cupcakes

These were so much fun to make!! They are going to be given away tonight's game night  (Tomato Jake's at Southpoint @9pm) and were made to promote the 80s prom coming up.

Ruffle flowers cake

I am far from girly, the only pink you will find in my closet is the pink in my Dr. Seuss's converses. But, I love DIY projects and anything crafty! I am also a huge fan of black and grey. For this project I decided to play around with the idea of fabric flowers. I love the colors! I am thinking I may do a tiered version of this and add more yellow :)

The cake is actually a styrofoam dummy, so I made cupcakes too:

I am a huge fan of chocolate, caramel and pecans. So, that's what I played around with for these cupcakes and mini cupcakes. They are a deep chocolate cupcake with pecans mixed in through out and pieces of caramel. Pretty yummy! Very brownie like :)

Marvel superhero cupcakes :)

The original plan was to do a 3 tier cake, unfortunately, we all got sick this past week and didn't have the time/energy to do a big cake. Friday night I was felling a little better so I decided to adjust the design into cupcakes (with the birthday boy's help). Justin decided you cannot mix DC and Marvel characters, so he picked Wolverine, Spiderman and Ironman.
Fondant details, Ironman's gold was sprayed with Wilton's gold spray, the blue
reactor piece was covered in silver/blue pearl dust.
I am hoping next year to get to do the 3 tier super hero cake, or I may wait till his 30th birthday.

21st Air Force Glider cake

This was a fun challenge! I was asked to make a Glider cake for a 21st birthday celebration. Mike is in the Air Force Academy and flies gliders. This is the original glider he first started with. Mom didn't remember what the number of the glider was, so we decided to go with 21.
The glider was a challenge with the crazy heat and humidity we have had the past couple days, but I am happy with how it turned out.
I also really like how the mountains came out. You can't tell, but the snow caps have a light dusting of silver pearl dust to add a little shine to them.

Fourth of July Cupcakes

I had seem a few pinwheel cupcakes lately, and decided to try my hand at them. Jack wasn't feeling so good, so we ended up staying at home for the 4th, so I only made a few cupcakes. Buttermilk cupcakes, vanilla/almond butter milk

Ninjago take 2

I was asked to make a dozen marbled cupcakes with Ninjago characters. The colors were left up to me, so I decided to do a mix but stick to four of them. I really like how the yellow helps the fondant characters pop.

Cookie Cake

My brother in law would much rather have a soft chocolate chip cookie than a piece of cake. We decided Sunday night that we would be celebrating his birthday on Monday before we left for our South Dakota/Colorado trip. I had about 10 minutes to decorate it, so I went with some basic butter cream and fondant letters. Soft yummy, 14inch chocolate chip cookie :)

black and white flower cupcakes :)

I love making flowers, and I especially liked these! I had been wanting to try making flowers out if black gum paste to see if the color would stay just as dark once it dried. I am really happy with how they turned out  :)
These were one of three different types of cupcakes I made for a house warming party. The others were chocolate cupcakes with chocolate/peanut butter swirls and the coconut caramel ones so they  weren't "decorated".

Confirmation cake

I really enjoyed working on this cake. It had been a couple years since I last made a cake with butter cream roses. I forgot how much I enjoyed them! There are 3 sizes of roses in 4 different colors for a total of 75
 roses :)

First Communion pool party cake

Buttermilk cake with vanilla/almond butter cream with fondant details for a first communion pool party. I have known Sebastian since he was 3, so it was a pleasure to make him this cake :)

UNC Graduation cake, take 2

I had someone email me this week asking if I could replicate my last UNC graduation cake. It's not exactly the same, but pretty similar. It reads: "Congratulations G-6" as it was for a group of roommates from one of their dads. Chocolate cake, buttercream icing, covered in fondant with fondant details.

Jack's First Birthday!!

This post is much more personal than most. My little guy turned one this past weekend! I still can't believe it! At first I was thinking about making a big elaborate cake, but decided cupcakes would be best. As we were having 50+ people coming, I decided cupcakes would be easier. That way people could eat sweets whenever they wanted, instead of having to wait for us to cut a cake. Plus, we weren't sure how Jack would react if everyone was staring at him and singing at the same time.

After breakfast on Friday, his birthday, Jack got his first real taste of sugar.
A mini banana cupcake with chocolate icing. He LOVED it :)

I may have gone a little over board with the dessert table.
Counting different icing combinations, and the chocolate covered strawberries which weren't pictured,
 there were 17 desserts

I decided to label the treats so people could decide what they wanted easier:

At his party Jack got to have a mini funfetti cupcake with vanilla icing. He enjoyed it, but not as much as he enjoyed the chocolate :)
